Twin Cities Summer Fun Ideas
June may have slipped away, but fear not! There is still plenty of time left in Minnesota’s rarest season and plenty to do! If you’re looking for a fun or adventurous way to celebrate the sunshine, look no further; here you will find a slew, a heap, and a peck of ideas for the day off work, that night out, that summer date, or a personal adventure.
INDULGE IN THE ARTS
Ordway dance series: This weekly event is an opportunity to socialize and engage in the arts. Don’t know how to dance? No problem! Lessons are offered before. The upcoming weeks will feature Salsa and Ballroom dance! The venue is also great–Rice Park!
Uptown Art Fair: This is easily one of my favorite summer events in the Twin Cities. Art of all types of medium are featured along the streets of Minneapolis’ hippest neighborhood. There’s also great food vendors, and last year there was an endearing little boy selling his drawings for a buck on the side of the road. D’awww!
Irish Fair: You may not be Irish, but certainly you wish you were! This outdoor festival features food, music, and entertainment for FREE!!! (Well, you have to pay for the food, but you get the gist). Plus, one of the most entertaining Irish Bands is making an appearance again this year: Gaelic Storm.
Japanese Lantern Lighting Festival: Come indulge in another beautiful culture. Japan’s culture is celebrated through food, art, martial arts, and more. Oh, and you remember that scene from Tangled with the lanterns? They do that (well, something similar) in real life! Click on the link to read more about the history and cultural significance of the lanterns.
GET SOME FRESH AIR
Beaches: Calhoun, Nokomis, Harriet just to name a few! Can’t go wrong with a day of bumming in the sun!
Walker on the Green: Artist designed mini-golf sounds like a great outing with friends, family, or a special someone, doesn’t it? Be adventurous–give it a shot!
Minneapolis Aquatennial: From parades to water games to fireworks, this festival has it all! It’s a great way to experience all that Minneapolis has to offer.
Movies in the Park: Click for the whole schedule–outdoor showings of movies (cult classics, thrillers, comedies, and classics) in a variety of outdoor venues.
Lyndale Park Rose Garden: Enjoy the simple beauty of this rose garden. But trust me, this isn’t your grandma’s garden: it’s 1.5 acres!
Ice Cream: There are many places I could recommend, but this summer I’ll keep it simple. Nelson’s has mammoth proportions for a cheap price. Plus, the selection is wonderful! Check it out!
There you go! Now go out there and grab ahold of summer ’til it’s gone!
